Fix dates written different ways

Exports from different systems mix “2024-03-05”, “3/5/2024” and “Mar 5, 2024” in one column, so sorting and filtering by date goes wrong. Tidytable writes them all the way most of the column already does, and shows you the values it couldn’t read as dates.

How to do it

  1. Drop your file on the box above.
  2. Open Clean up. Look for “Write N dates in … the same way” and check the examples.
  3. Press Fix. If the dates are stored as text, it first offers to make the field a date field: press Convert.
  4. Anything that still isn’t a date is underlined; “Show rows” lists them so you can fix them by hand.

Questions

Which way does it write them?

The way most of the column is already written, so the fix changes as few values as possible.

What about day-first dates like 05/03/2024?

Tidytable leaves those alone rather than guessing whether it means March 5 or May 3.

Can I choose a different date style?

Yes. Edit the field and pick a format, like 2024-03-05 or March 5, 2024. You see before → after first.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Tidytable reads the file in your browser tab, on your own computer. There’s no server that sees your rows, no account, and nothing to delete afterwards.
